The thing about unlocked cellular phones is that the process can get really frustrating. It does not have to be complicated, you know.

Assuming you are not looking for the latest unlocked cellular phone, the following three steps are all you need to help you pick the cell phone that is right for your business.

Step One: Figure out the cell phone coverage you need.

Step one involves figuring out where you are going to be using your new unlocked cell phone. Do you work in the city or the country? Also, do you often travel aboard and intend to use your phone around the world?

If you work primarily in US metropolitan areas, you do not have to worry about whether you need a GSM, CDMA or TDMA phone. They all work pretty well.

On the other hand, if you work in rural, remote or undeveloped areas, your best bet is a CDMA or TDMA phone since these providers have the best coverage in rural or undeveloped areas. If you intend to use your cell phone while abroad, GSM is the communications standard used outside of North America. If you purchase a GSM phone so that you can use it abroad, you need to make sure the phone is purchase an unlocked cellular phone.

With an unlocked GSM cellular phone, you can easily swap out the SIM card within the local country and buy prepaid SIM cards to avoid expensive roaming charges. These local country SIM cards are often available in corner stores in most countries.

Step Two: Figure out the cell phone rate plan you need.

Once you have figured out where you are going to be primarily using your new cell phone, the next step is to figure out what business rate plan is the most economical for your needs. Most providers offer different plans based around buckets of minutes that are allocated between different time periods in a day or week.

If you are going to be using the phone primarily during the day, you will need a plan that will give you the maximum number of minutes when the sun is up.

On the other hand, if you are going to be using your new cell phone primarily on the weekends, you need a plan that gives you the maximum number of minutes on Saturday and Sunday. Those are the two extremes. Other plans offer some combination of weekday daytime, evenings and weekend minutes.

If you are unsure of your calling patterns, take advantage of the free first-month promotions offered by many providers to figure out when you make your calls and then switch your plan accordingly if necessary. Many phone companies will analyze your cell phone usage if asked to and will recommend a plan that minimizes your monthly cost.

Step Three: Buy your new cell phone.

If you are going to be buying a GSM phone because you intend to travel and use the phone abroad, stick to tri-band/tri-mode phones. These phones can operate on a multitude of frequencies that various operators abroad may use. Otherwise, do not worry about whether the phone is tri-band/tri-mode or dual-mode. Other than that one consideration, choosing an unlocked cellular phone is all a matter of taste.

Be aware about the factors that make up your unlocked cellular phones. They might make a lot of difference. Ones that you did not put much attention on.

Globalization has made this world a small place. People travel all over the world for personal and professional reasons. Staying connected to family, friends and business acquaintances is a requisite for the travelers. With the advancement of technology, the mobile manufacturers have come up with new mobiles to make our lives simpler.

Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) are the two dominant technologies in mobile telephony. Currently, GSM has wider coverage and acceptance in the world. More that 150 countries in the world use Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technology for mobile communication. There are four frequency bands that are used in different countries for the mobile operation. The mobile phone should operate according to the frequency used in that particular country for mobile communication. Locked phones are those that recognize SIM cards from a particular frequency that is being used. Hence it cannot be used globally. Unlocked GSM cell phones are a new revolution in the telecom world. These cell phones can recognize any carrier frequency. There is no difference in the hardware between locked and unlocked phones. In locked phones there is a software program that puts a lock on the frequency that is used being used by the operators in the region, whereas in the unlocked cell phones, a code provided by the carrier is used to unlock the cell phones. This enables the user to lock onto any frequency.

Unlocked cell phones are significant for the people who often travel abroad. Locked cell phone will not lock to the frequency that is being used in the country you are visiting whereas unlocked cell phones can switch over to the carrier frequency of the local operator of the country you are visiting and you can use the same cell phone.

In the market, wide range of unlocked GSM cell phones and SIM cards are available such as Motorola, Panasonic, and Samsung. Considering the several advantages of the unlocked GSM phones, different vendors are coming up with their range of phones that can provide flexibility, convenience and cost effectiveness to the user.

Buying an unlocked cell phone has numerous benefits. Beyond the most obvious (cost savings), one of the best benefits to purchasing a used phone instead of a new one is the fact that you will have more control over the network that you use. When you buy a new phone, you are restricted to either using the network that offers the phone you want or using one of the phones supported on your network. With an unlocked used phone, you get the best of both worlds - the phone you want on the network you want.

Of course, in searching for a used phone, you'll still need to find one that will work on whatever network you want to use. However, used phones are often unlocked, meaning they can work on any of a few networks, which gives you more options. You also are not limited by the limited selection available at your provider's local store as you can purchase any phone made for their network, even if it is no longer commercially available, and still get it activated. Cell phone choice is largely influenced by personal preferences and choosing from a wider selection of used phones will help ensure you get the phone with all the features you want.

If you decide to purchase a used cell phone, take some time to figure out what network you want to use. Consider how you plan to use the phone and look for the best combination of coverage and price. For example, if you plan to do a lot of internet browsing with your new phone, look for the carrier with the current lowest prices on their data plans, assuming they have adequate coverage in your area.

Once you know what network you want to operate on, you need to find out what "kind" of network it is. There are a few different kinds that I'm sure you've heard of even if you don't know what they mean - GSM, CDMA, and TDMA are the most common. The different types of networks have their relative advantages. All will perform well in major cities. However, if you live in or plan to use your phone a lot in rural areas, you amy be better off with a CDMA or TDMA network like Verizon or Sprint-Nextel. On the other hand, people that do a lot of international travel are better with a GSM network as these phones come with SIM cards that can easily be swapped out to allow the phone to work on international networks and avoid roaming charges.

Once you know what kind of network you need, find a phone that works on that type of network and begin comparing the prices of the different providers that operate on that network technology. At this point, it's as simple as going in to the local office or calling customer service to sign up and get your used phone activated.

don't realize that something happens even on your treasured thing called cell phone. Does locked cell phone ever give a ring? But no, this is not that sort of lock in the keypad that is very simple to remove. This is about the carrier lock in your cell phone, otherwise known as a SIM lock or subsidy lock. So when does this occur and what should you do? Let's first understand some technicalities on a cell phone system...

CDMA and GSM are two major communication systems used for cell phones. CDMA is a coded response system that binds a phone and its user together to a specific system and to a specific number. CDMA is prevailing in the United States.

GSM, which stands for the Global System for Mobile Communication, is the usual standard in over 200 other countries in the World and is prevailing in the United States. GSM cell phone uses a SIM card to communicate with a particular network. The network provider has the ability to lock the phone so that it will not respond to a SIM card from an alternate provider. Network providers do this apparently for competitive purposes, but many have complained against this unfair pattern. When the cell phone is purchased by an individual, he should have the ability to change the SIM card and use the unit on any network that he prefers to use. This gives him the power to use the same phone when traveling, especially in foreign countries without paying expensive roaming charges.

We're done with understanding how a locked cell phone occurs, so what to do after it happens? There are basically three ways and each of them demand excruciating amount of time to know your phone more and its system, search for help over the Net and then make call... you get the drift. So here's a better solution.

If you are still in the process of buying a cell phone, prevention is better than cure. While it is conceivable to unlock a cell phone, different persons choose to buy unlocked cell phones. Yes, you have that choice! The truth of the matter's that there is tremendous competition between the various mobile phone service providers. Thus, phone companies are most anxious to lock you into using their service and this is the purpose for locking them. When you own an unlocked phone, you have the freedom to choose your own service - the stuff you need and the stuff that you just want.

GSM phones are easier to unlock compared to CDMA phones. But then again, in either case, it is better to purchase an unlocked mobile phone than buying a phone and go through the dilemma of unlocking it later. So let's make the equation simple from hereon, buying unlocked phones is the only way to go. And before you take out cash from your pocket, ask the seller and make sure that they truly understand what it is you are asking of them. Once you have your unlocked phone, it is an easy matter to determine if it is truly unlocked. All you need to do is try it out and the phone will tell you its status. If it is unlocked you will be capable to use it to connect with whatever service you wish to use.
